A key aspect of the work of Cornerstone Collective is enabling church planting and revitalisations. We have utilised a range of approaches and models to establish vibrant, gospel-centred churches in different parts of Merseyside, and we are always keen to review and refine how we plant and revitalise churches so that each new venture has the greatest chance of longevity in its specific context.
Our original ‘re-plant’ took place in 2009, where Steve Robinson was appointed as the Pastor of Ramilies Road Chapel (now Cornerstone Church Liverpool) and he and his wife Siân set out to build a small team of people from other churches to join with the existing small congregation at Ramilies. The first church plant from Cornerstone Church Liverpool was Cornerstone Church Wirral in 2013, and this was initially a ‘gathering’ of a small team of people from the Liverpool congregation meeting in Bebington, Wirral but as it became more established, it created its own Eldership and is now autonomous in its leadership and functioning as a church.
More recently, we have sent small teams of people from our existing congregations to support new Church Planter Pastors who have served and trained for their roles in the Cornerstone Collective Church Planter Residency. This model was followed by Liberti Church Lark Lane and Hope Church Kensington.
In 2022/3, a Cornerstone Collective Church Plant Resident spent a year training with the Collective and its churches before joining the existing Pastor of Orrell Park Baptist Church as a second Pastor, alongside a team of people from the Cornerstone Liverpool congregation, to lead a revitalisation of Orrell Park Baptist Church.
